FEBRUARY IS LESBIAN, GAY, BISEXUAL HISTORY MONTH
Friday - 10th February
VIDEO TONIGHT - "WHAT IF I'M GAY?" - Somewhere in the US a group of young men and women from the same high school hang out together. Which one is gay? And how does he/she cope when the others find out? Just as importantly, how do they cope? Last shown at LGC in our Swarthmore days in May 1991. If we can start by 8.15 pm we might just finish by five past nine!
Saturday - 11th February
FILM AT ERIC'S TONIGHT - We will show the classic gay film "VICTIM" (1961), WITH Dirk Bogarde, Sylvia Sims and Dennis Price. In 1961 sex between men was punishable by law in the UK. In 1957, after three years of research, the Wolfenden Report had been published. It recommended decriminalisation, but it wasn't until 1967 that Parliament acted. Meanwhile, the miser that blackmail brought to gay men's lives continued, as this dark, black-and-white film shows. Doors open 7.00 pm. On screen 7.30 pm. ROUND THE GROUP TONIGHT - when we will have a discussion on the theme "WHAT DOES THE FUTURE HOLD FOR LGB PEOPLE IN GENERAL AND FOR YOU PERSONALLY AS A GAY OR BI-SEXUAL MAN" . There have been a great many changes affecting LGB people over the 40 years since our group was formed. Let us hear what you think might happen in the 21st Century.
Friday - 24th February
A GLOBAL GAY HISTORY - OUT IN THE WORLD - PART THREE - Tonight we will play the third instalment of this series on gay history. Part three shifts the focus to the complex relationship between sexuality and gender as the presenter surveys the so-called 'third sex' in places such as India, Indonesia, and the ladyboys of Thailand which confounded the understanding of 19th century imperialists. (45 minutes). See also paragraph on pages 15/16 of LGC News No. 273.
Wednesday - 29th February
EATING OUT TONIGHT - AT KENDELLS BISTRO, 3 St. Peter's Square, Leeds LS9 8AH. It is opposite the Leeds College of Music, part of the thriving arts district in Leeds City Centre next to the West Yorkshire Playhouse, BBC Leeds and the new Northern Ballet Dance Theatre, and just across the road from Leeds Bus station. We've heard very good reports about this restaurant and so we're going to give it a try. There is a fixed price tea-time menu:- 2 courses for £16.95; 3 courses for £18.95; 3 courses + half bottle of wine for £24.95. Please note we have to leave after an hour and a half with this menu, but we could continue with coffee in the Playhouse. Let Mark know if you want to attend either on Friday night or by leaving a message on his answerphone, no later than 20 February 2012.

FRUND RAISING SALE TONIGHT - Bring along any book, magazines etc which have a gay theme which you no longer want to keep. Also any other small items which you think someone else might like to have. This way we can raise funds for the group. Please note: unsold items must be taken away afterwards.

SPEAKER TONIGHT - AN UPDATE ON HIV/AIDS - Thirty years ago, when we first heard that gay men in the US were dying from an unidentifiable illness, we were concerned. We followed the rapid spread of AIDS with alarm and kept ourselves informed of developments, particularly with regard to prevention, care and, hopefully, a cure. Many LGC members feel that we have lost track of events and would like to know more about the current situation. Tom Hunt from Mesmac will enlighten us tonight.

MORNING COFFEE TODAY - AT LEEDS PARISH CHURCH - Yes, in the church! Go in through the main entrance in Kirkgate and turn right. We're told you can't miss the refreshment room. Meet as usual from 11.00 am.

ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT - When we will show another episode from that ever-popular tv comedy series "YES MINISTER" . (30 minutes).

EATING OUT TONIGHT - at the Sheesh Mahal, 346-348 Kirkstall Road, Leeds LS4 2DS. This is one of the most popular Indian restaurants in Leeds. It is on Kirkstall Road, opposite the Warner Village, where the Vue Cinema is situated. Meet as usual at the restaurant at 7.00 pm. Contact for tonight is Patrick. Please let him know if you would like to join our party, as a booking may have to be made. By 23rd March, please.

The "Friend" Walk 2012 will take place on Sunday, 15th July. We have raised quite a bit of money for this very worthy cause over the years, and we hope that LGC members will continue to give it their full support. We shall have full details nearer the time.
